Work Zone Safety - Robert Seyfried, PE, PTOE

Potential traffic safety problems are incurred whenever traffic must be moved through or around a highway construction or maintenance work area. To be effective, work zone traffic control must be carefully planned, systematically applied, and continuously maintained. Unfortunately, safety considerations are sometimes sacrificed for other “pressing” concerns such as cost or expediency. As a result, crashes involving drivers, pedestrians, bicyclists, and workers remain unacceptably high. In view of high crash rates and dramatically rising costs of liability judgments against transportation agencies, consultants, and contractors, more emphasis has been placed on safety practices and planning in recent years. Yet, the same types of basic work zone deficiencies continue to occur. This presentation focuses on common work zone safety issues and desirable solutions.

Lunch starts at 11:30 AM, and the presentation will begin at noon. RSVP to by March 16 at 11:00 AM. Cost is $10, students are free. Join us for this important presentation!
